Kickapoo River Flood Warnings remain in effect for Steuben until sometime this morning. This will be the last flood warning to expire after all that historic flooding and rainfall over the last two weeks.
It was a pleasant start to the work week with temperatures topping out right where we should be this time of year, in the middle 70’s. However, heading into your Monday temperatures will begin to warm. We have high pressure to our southeast and as a result it will be pumping in southerly winds. Arriving on those southerly winds will be warmer temps, and slightly higher humidity. Highs this afternoon will top out in the upper 70’s and low 80’s under mostly sunny skies. Overnight, lows only drop back into the upper 50’s and low 60’s. Southerly winds at 7-14 mph will help to keep the mild air in place through the night.
Wednesday will feature more of the same. More sunshine, increased temps, and higher humidity levels will greet you by the afternoon. Highs will top out in the 80’s under mostly sunny skies. It will be a tad breezy with south winds at 10-15 mph. It will provide some relief to the increase in humidity. Dew point temperatures will extend back into the middle to upper 60’s by Wednesday afternoon.
While our weather is quiet overhead, the Atlantic and Pacific are churning with activity. The Atlantic has three named storms including Tropical Storm Isaac (soon to regain strength to a category one), Hurricane Helene (Category 2), and the power house, Hurricane Florence (Category 4). Florence will have, potentially, catastrophic impacts from the northern South Carolina to the entire North Carolina coast. Extreme storm surge, two or more feet of rainfall, and winds in excess of 140 mph (at landfall) are possible with this storm.
