Overall this was a quiet and calm week and your Friyay will end that way as well. Temperatures have been on a slow and steady rise to near average. This weekend we will keep those warmer temperatures but a wintry mess pushes through creating dangerous travel all weekend.
Calm Before The Storm…
The temperatures started off more than 20 degrees warmer than yesterday, and frankly all week. Temperatures were in a pattern to start below zero, but cloud cover and warm air advection is working today. High temperatures are expected to reach the lower 30s although not much sunshine is likely.
Winter Storm Watch…
Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson[WI], Winona, Wabasha, and Fillmore[MN] are all under a winter storm watch from Saturday through Sunday. These counties are under a higher confidence to be able to experience more snow than rain. It will create heavy wet snow that will make it heavy for rooftops and make very slick road conditions.
The large and powerful low pressure system is to develop through the overnight grabbing moisture from the south and bring hazardous conditions to our region. This storm could bring HEAVY snow, rain, wintry mix and breezy conditions to the entire coulee region. This will be a fast moving system and snow and rain totals can change quickly. We could see that areas in the winter storm watch get anywhere from 4 to 7 inches of snow, and it will be heavy and wet snow. Now along and south of I-90 snow and rain totals will be hard to decipher between when and how much rain/snow will fall because of the tight gradient. Either way this storm will bring very high impacts to the roadways and your rooftops. Make sure to stay in tuned with the forecast and start to plan now if you have weekend plans!
