A very warm and windy start to the week…
Everyone is talking about a major winter-type storm later this week. That is overshadowing the upper 70s and winds gusting to 40 mph we saw today!

Small weather change tonight and tomorrow…
A cold front moving through has pulled warmer air northward, but cooler weather will settle in behind the system. Look for highs to reach into the 50s to lower 60s on Tuesday afternoon. Sunny conditions will precede a storm later in the week.

Flood warnings remain in effect…
River Flood Warnings are in effect until further notice for locations along the main stem of the Mississippi River. Mostly moderate flooding is occurring.

The Mississippi River forecast…
The river stage at La Crosse is currently in moderate flood at around 13.3 feet. The river will continue to fall, but later this week into the weekend it will likely rise a bit. The expected spring storm will produce significant moisture for the watershed later in the week.

Significant storm this week…
A powerful storm will produce strong winds, rain, and snow. Snow will develop here Wednesday morning, and some accumulation is possible before changing to rain or a mix during the day. Rain and snow are possible from time to time through Friday morning. Roads are likely to be slippery.

Forecast snow and rain amounts…
There are many questions regarding track and the rain and snow line, so we can’t pinpoint amounts just yet. The main snow band will likely reach at least 12” and significant rain amounts are likely, too. Keep an eye on the forecast for projected local totals as we get closer to the storm.
